The updated ISO 9001:2015 standard emphasizes the importance of safeguarding machinery, outlining stringent requirements for fixed and movable guards. With references to ISO for risk assessment and risk reduction, the latest standards emphasize enclosing guards wherever practical, accompanied by mandatory risk assessments.
ISO 9001:2015 “Safety of machinery – Guards – General requirements for the design and construction of fixed and movable guards” has been updated and replaces an older version with updated references to more stringent standards including ISO (Risk Assessment and Risk Reduction) as well as others that provide guidance on means of attachment and safe operating distances. The update now includes “Where practical, hazards shall be guarded by enclosing guards” and Risk Assessments of the machinery must be applied.
To comply, lift table manufacturers and users are now protecting the scissors portion of the equipment. For over a decade, A.V. Ibrahim has been providing lift table protection bellows, with the latest and most advanced version being Lift bellows, which offers numerous advantages over traditional sewn bellows. Also, A.V. Ibrahim offers adding your brand to the bellows using labeling which is ISO compliant featuring strong adhesion and resistance to various oils/solvents.
Lift table skirting may be a practical method of guarding pinch point hazards to increase safety and comply with standard ISO “Safety of machinery – Covers”, yet some varieties of lift skirting provide little more than dust protection. Lift bellows completely enclose a scissors lift table to mitigate unintentional contact with pinch points. A.V. Ibrahim manufacturing process produces rigid sides free of stitching, protruding rods and/or wires.
